After trying a standard potty training seat from Target that was cushioned and had handles (and princesses, of course!), we switched to the seat pictured above. We switched because we weren’t having a lot of luck. The standard seat slipped around on our toilet which made Jenna feel nervous and unbalanced. If she tried to seat herself on the toilet, she would sometimes tip or slip off. I think the handles actually made it worse, because they gave her a false sense of security.
I started searching online for a better solution and came across the fun Ducka Toilet Seat Reducer by Primo Baby. All the reviews I read for it were fabulous, and boasted a great fit to the seat and the fact that the yellow rubber edging prevents slipping. We’ve happily found all the reviews to be true. It fits both round and elongated toilet seats and has adjusters on the bottom to set the perfect fit. It never slides or tips and, because of this security, we don’t even miss that it doesn’t have handles. It’s also easy to clean, and who can deny that it’s totally adorable?? Jenna actually seems more intrigued by the ducky character than she was by the princesses (Hallelujah!), and now easily and confidently uses the potty by herself (with the aid of a stool). Although it’s not an issue for us (REALLY – it’s not), I would also point out that since it’s not pink and princessy, it could easily be used for a second child no matter what the gender.
