Snuggly Gift for New Baby

05 Dec

When Jenna was in the NICU, she had her own athletic “tube” sock filled with rice that the nurses would warm in a microwave and then place next to her for snuggly warmth.  She loved it and it frequently soothed her when not much else would.

This adorable elephant follow the same idea.  He has a velcro closure on his back for a microwavable cherry stone pouch (included).  He is all organic with external organic cotton and internal lamb’s wool stuffing.  What could be snugglier?  He, and his horse companion (with red trim), are available online through Rosie Hippo for $28.  What a wonderful gift for that new baby in your life.

Rosie Hippo has offered 10% off for all PsychMamma readers through December 31!!  Simply enter the coupon code “PSYCHMAMMA” at checkout.

You can also save some bucks and DIY the tube sock with rice.  Simply fill a long tube sock with rice so it’s still flexible and securely stich up the open end.  Or, get a little fancier (if you want a more involved sewing project) and use some soft, colorful flannel.  I would recommend looking for organic fabrics, since you’ll be microwaving, which might release any chemical treatments on regular fabric.

Always use EXTREME caution when heating these for babies in order to avoid burns.  Err on the side of less time in the microwave, so it’s just warm, NOT hot.

Instead of rice – I used barley – the only thing is, it stinks for a while.
