Little Bird in a Cage

05 Jul

A four year-old friend came to stay with us for a few days a week or so ago. We wanted her to sleep on the same floor (upstairs) with all of us, but didn’t think that the girls being in the same room would be an idea that would result in much sleep for anyone. Since we only have Jenna’s bedroom, our bedroom and a den upstairs, we kid-proofed the den and made a cozy sleeping place for Little Friend. She brought her own sleeping bag, but in an effort to hopefully make it a bit more fun, we draped sheets and blankets to create a “fort” for her to sleep in. It was a hit with both girls. Jenna insisted that we make her crib into a tent too, so we took a sheet and draped it over the top. If you’ve been following my posts, you know that Jenna’s been having trouble settling down to sleep at night. The tent seems to have helped even more than her ladybug. She’s settling sooner and sleeping more soundly. Every night (and nap) when we tuck her in, she says, “I need the tent” and we cover her up. I couldn’t help thinking of a little bird whose cage gets covered to help them rest. Here’s a picture of her peeking through the crib slats while sitting under her “tent.”
