Infertility issues

16 Jun

Why does it seem like so many couples who would make great parents are struggling with infertility issues? I know and love many people who are in this situation, and odds are that you do too. My heart goes out to all of them.

If you or someone you know is struggling with conceiving, you might want to check out the Conceivex Conception Kit. Thingamababy dad, AJ, blogs about their experience/success with the kit and has a giveaway here.

Everyone else out there: Stop asking childless couples when they’re going to start having kids. It’s an insensitive question that only intensifies the pain if they’re already struggling, and it’s none of your business anyway. Even if you’re TRYING to be lighthearted and funny. It’s not. So, have a heart and, when you’re wondering, just zip it and keep right on wondering.

My husband and I tried for over three years before Clomid and IUI helped us have our son (who’s almost two now). Since then I’ve had two miscarriages and we’re heading back to the RE to find out what the heck is going on. I definitely appreciate you spreading the word to all those “well meaning” people who ask couples about their childbearing plans. Nothing like trying for three years and crying every month when nothing happens only to have some smart aleck insinuate that maybe you aren’t trying hard enough. Infertility and miscarriage is hard enough without having to explain it to people who shouldn’t need to know.

I agree that it’s important to stay away from asking childless questions about when they are going to start having kids. It’s a bit insensitive and could be potentially very painful for the “answerer.” Thanks for the reminder.

    Incognito Mom –

Thanks for your comment and sharing. I know it’s not easy and I know about the tears every month through the friends I know struggling with the same. My heart goes out to you and I wish you luck.

    Stephanie –

Thanks for your comment too. I think we all need a reminder now and then, myself certainly included.
